Longshot
Longshot is a collective brought together by the unifying rhythms of Reggae, based in Manchester. The foundations for Longshot were laid down in 2003 when some of the crew first shared an interest for collecting and selecting records. Encouraged and inspired by crews such as Vibrations (http://www.myspace.com/vibrationshome) High Pressure (http://www.myspace.com/highpressuresoundsystem) and Stumblefunk (http://www.stumblefunk.org.uk) we set out playing house parties, bars and clubs as often as we could, with whatever speakers and amps we could find.
With a small soundsystem acquired from Vibrations, some of the crew established a successful and popular open mic session in south Manchester: “Pleasure Sessions”, which ran for about three years. In this time we met many amazing musicians and artists. In 2005, two of the crew, Louis Longshot and Sir Robin, gained a residency that they still maintain at Drum Music (http://www.drummusic.org) which continues to be one of the most successful underground music events in Manchester.
With the help of the Drum Music collective & Bass Camp, Longshot has hosted some wicked sessions alongside such artists & sounds such as Nucleus Roots, Freedom Masses, Operation Sound System, The Rootsman, Russ Disciples, Mungo's Hifi and more.
Now in collaboration with Drum Music and Herbal sessions, we are building a new sound system so we can travel to meet other sounds and play the music we love and music of our own, which we are currently producing in our own studio. Roll on Beat-Herder and the soundsystem vibes!
