After being given his first record player in
1975, he has always had a special desire for vinyl. As a child being brought up
around his father’s reggae sound system, MellowTone, he started
to collect records from a very early age. By 1979, he had already gained a mini
collection, ranging from reggae pre release 45’s to punk rock! From there on
in, there was no looking back for him, continuing over the forthcoming years to
keep collecting records. In 1982, he had one of his first experiences of dj-ing
to the public at a family reception. In 1983, he, alongside his brother and a
few friends, started their own reggae sound system called Two Tone Posse,
mainly concentrating on reggae & soul music, but still having an outlook on
other music, especially electro. Showing his versatility, Mikey was also a
formidable part of Gravity Force – a break dancing crew from his area, second
only to Andromeda (his older brother’s crew!). Late in 1986 saw Mikey, along
with his same older brother from Andromeda, Richard aka Mr Wiz, and George aka
Sonic G, start a rap group called KRISPY 3. The summer of 1989 saw the surface
of their first piece of vinyl ‘Comin’ Thru Clear’ on their own record label.
For those who do not know, or simply just have not realised, Mikey is now known

A midst all this, Mikey managed to keep focused on his reggae roots by joining
Axis Sound System in 1994. In ‘98, he departed and started another dj-ing
partnership with ex-Axis member Big G, calling themselves the Sunz Of Axis,
mixing reggae & ragga with hiphop, jungle & drum & bass, to maximum
effect, gaining their sound a very strong following. S.O.A. have, taken their

Armed with boxes of killer tunes, he has also been dj-ing solo & hosting
club nights in the UK & abroad for the best part of EIGHTEEN YEARS in
reputable nights like Stone Love (Newcastle), No-one’s Driving (Lancaster),
Scratch (Edinburgh & London), Custard Factory (Birmingham), FishFry
(Manchester), Friends & Family (Manchester), & Asylum (Jamaica) to name
but a few. Amongst other monikers, he’s also earned the title of “The North
West’s Number 1 Soundboy”, not only for his skills as a selector/operator in his sound system
days, but also due to never being beaten in the numerous battles and
‘soundclashes’ he’s had over the years against people like Mr Scruff,
Koma&Bonez, & Dom (Blood&Fire) to name but a few.
The passion for good, quality music in him still shows to this day, to the
point where Mikey D.O.N is known all around the country for the hard work and
effort he has put in over the years, thus gaining him an unmistakable
reputation. One thing is for sure - whether rocking a club from behind the
turntables, or holding a mic and delivering devastating lyrics, there’s no
doubt Mikey D.O.N is THE force to be reckoned with! Check him out fo’ sheezy!!
